Dmitriy Salita
Dmitriy Salita is an undefeated Orthodox Jewish boxer from Brooklyn. As the WBA’s top-ranked contender, he will be fighting for the world championship of the junior welterweight division in December against Amir Khan.
Dmitriy has to balance his boxing and his daily physical training with his faith and all of its requirements. He can't fight on certain days and has to keep to a strict diet, but he stays true to both his religion and the rigorous demands of his sport. He believes his religious focus has only made him a better fighter. An award-winning documentary about his life, called ‘Orthodox Stance’ was recently released with the support of the Foundation for Jewish Culture’s Lynn and Jules Kroll Fund for Jewish Documentary Film.
Not only has Dmitriy stayed true to his religion, he is a recognized leader in the Jewish community. When he is not training for his profession, he can be often found giving back to young boxers by teaching them the ropes at gyms in New York City.
