Tell us about your nominee. Why should he or she be recognized as a Jewish Community Hero?
With selfless sacrifice Mr. Gorelik and his wife spend almost every waking hour trying to help the students at Colorado State University, as well as all of the Jews in Northern Colorado. They act as confidants for those that need them and they help out in every way that they can. They give everything they have to help other Jews around Northern Colorado.
What problem did your nominee identify in the community that needed to be solved? How has your nominee's efforts made a difference for others?
In Northern Colorado, the atmosphere is not very welcoming to Jews. There are over 30 student organizations that are connected to a church group. Mr. Gorleik and his wife gave the option of a place for those that are Jewish to find a place. They offer fully kosher meals every Friday night and on each holiday.
