Tell us about your nominee. Why should he or she be recognized as a Jewish Community Hero?
A TIME was established fifteen
years ago by Rabbi Shaul and Brany
Rosen. Struggling with infertility in a
generation where the very word was
taboo, they and a group of friends began
publishing a modest newsletter, including
inspiration and content to help others.
A TIME has evolved and metamorphosed
right along with the technology.
By now, A TIME is not "just support
groups” although those certainly cannot
be underestimated. Along with their
original mission of providing emotional
support and practical guidance, A TIME
has grown to encompass virtually any
aspect and issue relating to infertility,
guiding couples down a sometimes very
rocky road.
Currently, A TIME has 7,000 registered
members; 9,500 babies born through their services and 65,000 pages of their informational
website are accessed every
day by about 850 users. Besides the main
office in Brooklyn, A TIME branch offices
operate in Israel, England, Canada,
and all across the United States.
What problem did your nominee identify in the community that needed to be solved? How has your nominee's efforts made a difference for others?
Every day, calls come into A
TIME's office: Calls from mothers of
teenage girls who are concerned about
problems they've seen in their daughters.
Calls from chasanim and kallahs and
their teachers. Calls from women experiencing
difficulties in their pregnancies.
Calls from women in
middle age, experiencing medical difficulties
as they head into their later years.
There is the whole other world of secondary
infertility, lesser known but all too
prevalent: couples who have had
their first children without a problem, but
who then, inexplicably, are unable to
have more. Then there are the cancer
patients, lo aleinu, whose treatments
could render them incapable of parenting
children, if preventative measures are not
taken.
As the most knowledgeable organization
in these fields, A TIME finds itself
relating to many diverse groups.
As needs arose, programs were implemented
to meet them.
