Tell us about your nominee. Why should he or she be recognized as a Jewish Community Hero?
Sam Glaser is an amazing ambassador for
Judaism and for embracing traditional Jewish observance. He performs
for the widest array of audiences of any Jewish artist; his devoted
fans range from those in the Reform and Conservative movements to the
Modern Orthodox and Chassidim. He has performed at the top Jewish
national conventions including the UJC's General Assembly, Limmud, Central
Conference of American Rabbis, Coalition for Advancement in Jewish
Education, Cantors Assembly, Union for Reform Judaism's Biennial,
Orthodox Union and Hadassah.
What problem did your nominee identify in the community that needed to be solved? How has your nominee's efforts made a difference for others?
Sam's music reaches out across the spectrum
from non-affiliated Jews to all the various levels of observance and
even into the Christian community spreading the beauty of Judaism
through music. An evening with Sam is life changing, people who have
never had a desire to embrace Judaism have found themselves reaching
out for a community and becoming connected because his words and music
touched their soul. Sam has produced albums that have benefitted
numerous Jewish causes. He stands proudly as a Jewish American wherever
he performs and is an ambassador for peace and tolerance. His music
brings people of all walks of life together in harmony.
