How is your Hero working to make the world a better place?

Rabbi Jacobs has influenced the Jewish public discourse and dialogue through her novel approach to exploring themes of social justice in Jewish laws and texts, and applying those themes, based in tradition and history, into the community at large. After receiving her rabbinical ordination and an MA in Talmud from the Jewish Theological Seminary, Rabbi Jacobs has re-conceptualized the integration of social justice within the Jewish community through her dedication to issues such as torture and indefinite detention, slavery and human trafficking, and human rights and justice in Israel. Rabbi Jacobs has written extensively on the importance of advocating for social justice and has served as Rabbi-in-Residence of Jewish Funds for Justice.Often recognized as a leading Jewish voice in America, Rabbi Jacobs has established herself as an indispensable role model in the Jewish community, bringing in a strong religious and ethical voice. Rabbi Jacobs provides the Jewish community with new and vibrant ideas, demonstrating not only her passion and commitment, but her true aptitude for leadership. Through viewing the world through a lens of Tikun Olam, Rabbi Jacobs has not only changed the world for the better, but has inspired many others to do so as well by following her example.

How has your Hero impacted your life and inspired you?

The leadership, commitment, and passion which Rabbi Jacobs exudes on a daily basis, inspires me to continue working to make the world a better place, even when it proves to be difficult. Always able to tackle a challenge and face difficult issues, Rabbi Jacobs is part of the new generation of women in leadership roles within Jewish organizations, who are not afraid to stand up for what is right and just. After reading Rabbi Jacobs' books, I was inspired to think more critically about Jewish laws and traditions which compel us, as Jews, to take action against the injustices of the world.
