Tell us about your nominee. Why should he or she be recognized as a Jewish Community Hero?
Phil has been an activist for Israel and
Judaism for 40 years, including the rescue of 1000 Ethiopian Jews now
living safely in Israel, his stance and marches led against the
neo-Nazis in Skokie, and saving a Torah from Russia.
Using the combined mediums of TV, radio, newspaper, and the internet to
communicate with the Jewish community nationally, Blazer makes a
difference with Survivors and Jews everywhere. Phil has also written
and published several books including a biography of "Theodor Herzl,"
"The Pioneers of Israel", and "The History of Jewish Los Angeles."
What problem did your nominee identify in the community that needed to be solved? How has your nominee's efforts made a difference for others?
Phil Blazer saw the need for a Jewish TV
network and founded and launched JLTV(Jewish Life TV), a 24/7 Jewish TV
network serving all 50 states, as well as international cites. While
there are dozens of Christian and ethnic and foreign language stations,
there has never been a network delivering Jewish themed programs for
all Americans, both Jewish and non-Jewish. This year JLTV is airing
LIVE Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur services from Los Angeles,
especially important to those who cannot attend a synagogue. After
waiting decades for a full time Jewish TV network-- JLTV and Phil
Blazer have made this a reality. Starting with his own TV interview
show 40 years ago, Blazer has built up a huge library of Jewish themed
films, programs, and entertainment to offer a platform of programs
introducing Jewish culture and education. Phil Blazer is a hero in the
Jewish community in Los Angeles, in the country, in Israel, and in the
world.
