Neshama Carlebach
NYC, New York
How is your Hero working to make the world a better place?
When Neshama sings, you want to close your eyes and take it all in. Your body energizes with spirituality and goodness. Her volunteer work in New Orleans and compositions with the Baptist Choir are typical examples of how she leads by example in wanting to be better in this world and bridge gaps with others. Her messages are filled with love and hope and her voice is angelic. If you haven't heard it, you're missing out.
Neshama feels truly honored to be nominated for this award. If she won, the prize money would go to her new project called Soul Journey, which is an extension of the work hat she has been doing worldwide all these years.
The mission of Soul Journey is to enable communities around the world to host musical, educational and spiritual experiences that they might not otherwise be able to afford. Her hope is that events are used as both major Fund Raisers and “Soul Raisers,” both so desperately needed. At the same time, she hopes to unite and strengthen Jewish communities worldwide, together with its various interfaith and interracial neighbors. Neshama hopes to fill the theaters of major American cities and the crumbling houses of worship of other continents. Envisioned as an intimate encounter with hands-on, experiential music and learning, Soul Journey seeks to empower, unite and uplift through the universal power of music.
The mission of Soul Journey continues the mission of Neshama’s father, Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, whose music and teachings were built upon the simple, yet profound, belief that love can unite and heal the world. It's not the only way to heal the world, but it's so deeply clear to her that their music helps bring people together, break down walls that holds them from themselves and others, and allows for profound spiritual connection.
