Lori Sue should be recognized on behalf of her tireless efforts on behalf of children, adults and families with Asperger's Syndrome. She founded ASPEN, which is a non-profit organization providing support and education to teachers, children and their parents and young adults with disabilities.
When her son was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at age 9 in 1996, she did not know of one other parent whose child had Asperger's Syndrome and there was very little information available about it. There were no support groups, and there was only one book written on the subject at that time (and it) painted a very bleak picture for the future of our loved ones. She worked with a dedicated group of parent volunteers who gave generously of their time and their hearts to provide support, information and advocacy so that today's children and young adults on the Autism Spectrum have a better future.
