Tell us about your nominee. Why should he or she be recognized as a Jewish Community Hero?
Lisa is the site coordinator for a Tuv Ha'Aretz Community Supported Agriculture program that brings fresh, organic produce once a week. They have 75 share members, but including their families, they are probably distributing food to about 180 people, maybe more. This program also supplies reduced priced shares of produce to a number of community members, who would otherwise be unable to afford the entire cost. They are also donating food to Emergency Family Assistance in Boulder, where demand for food and other resources has been increasing as the economy has gotten worse.
What problem did your nominee identify in the community that needed to be solved? How has your nominee's efforts made a difference for others?
There has always been a need to support small, sustainable farms. This project supports those farms and also increases environmental awareness within the Jewish community through associated programming, like a trip to Red Wagon Organic Farm, our farm partner, as well as specifically Jewish environmental programs and cooking workshops to help teach people how to incorporate healthier food into their diets. The idea is to increase awareness at the same time we support a healthier Jewish community and more sustainable farming practices.
