How is your Hero working to make the world a better place?

Joel has been working for Hillel for the past 8 years. Broward and Palm Beach, University of Michigan and now University of Georgia, a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, changing the lives of young Jewish students by giving them a positive Jewish experience and allowing them to find their own unique voice in their communities. He has led numerous Birthright trips and helped raise thousands of dollars for different charities. Programs such as:Dawgs Ditch the Dumpster and Donate,' a donation drive to get students who are moving out of their dorms to give unwanted items to local area homeless shelters and soup kitchens which would otherwise end up in campus dumpsters, has seen over $55,000 worth of items going to people in real need. He has recruited and taken students to Brazil, Argentina and the Ukraine on alternative Spring break trips to build homes and kitchens for poor Jewish communities He inspires each student to make a difference by treating them all like his family. He has created a warm, friendly and inviting family atmosphere here at UGA and we are so lucky to have him.

How has your Hero impacted your life and inspired you?

I went on Birthright with Joel in Summer 2010 and saw first hand his enthusiasm for our community. He inspired me to come back and become even more involved in campus activities. I am currently co-president of Dawgs for Israel, UGA's largest pro Israel advocacy group. I am not the only one who has had this experience and I see every day what Joel does to make Jewish life at UGA as warm and open as possible.
