How is your Hero working to make the world a better place?
Hope is the backbone for the growth and development of Valley Youth Theatre. In 1989, Hope grabbed hold of the fledgling community theatre for children and served as its chair for 13 years. Hope has taken what was a struggling start-up and built it to a position of prominence and respect in the Valley of the Sun. Instrumental from its inception in developing VYT's board, accessing resources, securing a permanent venue, obtaining significant in-kind materials and services, she's been its principal fundraiser, personally having raised thousands upon thousands of dollars. Valley leaders have experienced her relentless focus on the development and sustainability of VYT. Hope's belief that performing arts training is one of the strongest self-esteem builders for children has driven her to devote countless hours committed to this organization. Her leadership, contagious enthusiasm, and innovation have brought thousands of children the enjoyment of live theatre, expanding their horizons and creating art audiences and philanthropists of the future. Through her efforts, thousands of disadvantaged children from the inner city have been exposed to a world of imagination and creativity far beyond their own. Her tireless efforts have made VYT a creative success and financially stable arts organization: one that educates entertains and enlightens everyone who participates. In her words "No matter what they choose to pursue -- they will be better prepared, better at it, more self-confident and more successful because of their participation at Valley Youth Theatre." Were it not for Hope, VYT as we know it would not exist.
How has your Hero impacted your life and inspired you?
Hope has been my inspiration since March 1996 when I interviewed with her for Producing Artistic Director of Valley Youth Theatre. Upon first meeting, I was in awe of her passion and commitment to the young people of the Valley! Hope trusted me and gave me the chance to work side by side with her to ensure the viability of Valley Youth Theatre. She has been such an incredible role model and an awesome inspiration to me for over 15 years. She gave me a chance to shine, just like she has young people for more than 22 years!
