How has your Hero impacted your life and inspired you?
After the death of her mother Cis Golder, our nominee, Ellyn Saft, worked with her father and LBBC to create a lasting tribute that would not only honor her mother's memory but create a way to enhance the quality of life of other women in the Philadelphia area. The outcome is the Cis B. Golder Quality of Life Grant that provides financial assistance in the form of grants up to $2,000 to women in dire financial situations. Grants are used by recipients at a time when it is most needed to help pay the costs associated with a range of needs. Payment of rent/mortgage, utility bills, groceries, transportation, medical insurance and childcare are just a few examples of how recipients are able to use the grants as they manage their breast cancer treatment and management. Priority is given to women in active breast cancer treatment or who have finished treatment in the last year. Because of Ellyn's hard work and passion to help women in her community, five years after its establishment the Golder Grant continues to serve as an immediate and tangible resource for the Philadelphia community. Ellyn annually hosts numerous special events and fundraising drives to ensure that the grant remains viable, providing a beacon of hope, support and service to the unique and individual needs of hundreds of women affected by breast cancer.
