Tell us about your nominee. Why should he or she be recognized as a Jewish Community Hero?

Dina has been constantly active in trying to promote peace in the Middle East through organizing local meetings, demonstrations, helping found the Muslim Jewish Peace Walk and helping lead the local Tikkun group. She has been willing to brave criticism to try and help people understand positions that they disagree with, and to champion unpopular causes. She was also a co-president of Congregation Chaverim, during a difficult time in the congregation's history.

 

What problem did your nominee identify in the community that needed to be solved? How has your nominee's efforts made a difference for others?

Dina identified a lack of balance in Tucson Jewish Community discussion on Israel and the Middle East, which usually only identified with very conservative views. She has attempted to have the same range of opinion expressed here that one would also experience in Israel itself.
