What problem did your nominee identify in the community that needed to be solved? How has your nominee's efforts made a difference for others?

Carlos Galindo-Elvira identified the need for broader intergroup relations. As a result, Carlos worked with a local utility company that generously contributed start-up dollars for creating a Center for Culture & Understanding in Phoenix. Established in 2008, the Center plays a key role as a thought-generator by building partnerships for peace on social, cultural and diversity issues. To date, the Center has hosted multi-ethnic and Latino-Jewish two focus groups to obtain information and data on intergroup relations in the Arizona community. As well, the Center hosted ten alumni from Valle del Sol's leadership programs on a 2-day visit to Yuma, Arizona, to get a first hand view of the immigration issue.
