How is your Hero working to make the world a better place?

Bernie was ordained as a conservative rabbi but left the pulpit to return home and work in the family furniture business. He supports many charities in the community, both Jewish and non-jewish. He has served as Chair of the Advisory Committee at Clark University Hillel for over 20 years and was instrumental in bringing Clark, Hillel and the Federation of Central Massachusetts to even a higher level of mutual committment. Bernie has been extremely active in helping to revitalize a local Orthodox synagogue which 2 years ago was slated to close it's doors and sell off it's building and now holding regular shabbat and holiday services. Bernie has been supporting the local Jewish Federation for many years, has served on it's Board and has previously chaired campaign. Bernie and his wife, Bonita, are strong supporters of Israel and travel to the country often. Last year, through Bernie's efforts, the local community more than quadrupled the number of individuals attending th AIPAC convention.

How has your Hero impacted your life and inspired you?

Bernie is a man of integrity and committment, someone who is both a man of action and someone who works behind the scenes to get the job done. He is recognized across the jewish and non-jewish community for his contributions to greater society.He is passionate about Judaism and exemplifies the ability of the individual to make a difference in the world.
