Tell us about your nominee. Why should he or she be recognized as a Jewish Community Hero?

Aliza is both a lay and professional Jewish educator, community uniter and facillitator. Her story is remarkable - she independently found Judaism and converted to Judaism as a teenage girl, and went to Israel and served in the Israeli army.  She is has immersed herselfed in Judaism and community service to the point where she is an experienced and loved educator throughout our community. She works for a local Jewish outreach organization (the Jewish Experience), enthusiastically serves on the board of our community's only modern Orthodox day school - Denver Academy of Torah (even though she doesn't herself identify as such), teaches classes about Judaism throughout the community, and works for an international outreach organzition as well (Ner Lelef).  She is a true community builder and works tirelessly and selflessly for the betterment of all sectors of our community - she is a visionary, who is under-recognized.  She is warm, smart, insightful, and a joy to be with!

What problem did your nominee identify in the community that needed to be solved? How has your nominee's efforts made a difference for others?

She continually joins sectors of our community that our traditionally divided due to politics or ideology.  She helps to articulate the vision and mission of our day school, often far better than our own constituents can, and helps map out plans for success. She is currently chair of our Community Growth initiative to grow the modern-Orthodox sector of our community.
